With full force 2009 Review

WITH FULL FORCE 2009

For another time the With Full Force became a wonderful one. In our opinion the WFF is the logic successor of the legendary dutch Dynamo Open Air presenting you by Metal, Hardcore and Punk the main subgenres of hard music. This time the spectator had the opportunity to watch one of the very rare shows of Carcass, Down, Social Distortion, Static X, Pestilence and Suicidal Tendencies as many further attractive acts.
Besides that the WFF stands for a good organization and very fair ticket, food and beverage prices. In its 2009 – edition the sun always shined all the days raising the temperatures as the need of sun blockers. So probably this year’s WFF was the hottest one.
Just the opener of saturday’s Hardbowl – program Callejon had no luck. Their drummer Bodo had an accident behind the stage right before the show and got driven to hospital. They were forced to cancel their appearance and held an announcement to their fans on stage. So get well soon!
On the airfield of Roitzschjora appeared 63 bands on two stages in three days for about 25000 visitors.

Friday
Main Stage
Facebreaker It was up to the Swedish fivepiece to open the 2009 – edition of With Full Force. They presented classic old school Death Metal their country is well-known for considering tracks from their debut “Bloodred Hell” and their current album “Dead Rotten And Hungry” while the sun shined very hot. Fronter Roberth didn’t seem to care about this fact performing in leather pants in front of an astonishing number of spectators.

God Forbid First of all I got shocked noticing guitarist and clean voice of New Jersey’s finest Dallas Coyle had left the band. He got replaced by the former Himsa – sixstringer Matt Wicklund while Dallas’ brother Doc did the backing vocals besides playing the lead guitar. After opening with the classic “Anti Hero” they performed by “War Of Attrition” and “Empire Of The Gun” songs from their new “Earth’s Blood” – album which convinced as their stage – acting around the agile shouter Byron Davis did. The audience’s feedback raised when playing the hit “To The Fallen Hero” and “The End Of The World” before leaving stage.

Static-X The WFF – organizers had worked hard to get this appearance done. But it disappointed. Besides technical problems the quartet played their set without any catchable vibe. The penetrate half naked wife of mainman Wayne Static (What a couple: Nina Hagen meets Lämmermann!) stuck on the fans’ nerves with her superfluous stage presence. So the new “Cult Of Static” – track “Stingwray”, their hit “Black & White”, I’ m With Stupid” and the final “Push It” didn’t achieve their effect.

DevilDriver The fivepiece returned to Roitzschjora and entered the stage to perform an intense show, but it also didn’t convince at all. Fronter Dez Farfara’s voice sucked, so tracks like “Die (And Die Now)”, “Not All Who Wander Are Lost”, “Swinging The Dead” and “Clouds Over California” caused the first circle-pit as motion in the first rows by their fans, but probably didn’t win many new.

Legion Of The Damned After the older Static-X had presented modern sounds the newer Dutch band entered stage to entertain by traditional Thrash Metal. Anyway its members are no newcomers, years ago their formation had been called Occult. The sound worked better than the bands before, it just could have been a little bit louder. Promoting their two current outputs “Feel The Blade” and “Cult Of The Dead” (re-released Occult-classic under their new name) combined with band classics it became too monotonous after a while. Most of the spectators seemed too agree taking a beer / some food or a look at the merch.

Mastodon In total contras to the next band: The Main Stage area became pretty filled, the fans seemed pretty focussed on their psychedelic progressive songs. The quartet introduced material from their new “Crack The Sky” – album like its hit “Oblivion” as the epic “The Czar” which held the level with well-known perls like “Blood And Thunder”. The crowd preferred to celebrate these groove-monsters without getting in any motion, they were too impressed. Just the vocals could have been much louder.

Carcass Imagine a legend appears, but most people don’t care or most of them even know the band. Sad, but true! Anyway, the left fan crowd didn’t care celebrating an amazing show which turned out to a much better one then the reunion gigs last year. The band have become a tight unity, especially Bill Steer and Jeff Walker have improved their live performance a lot. The last mentioned one announced in the beginning of their slot the sympathic request about moshpits and circle-pits: “Fuck that shit! I only wanna see fists and headbanging!” The fans complied with this and celebrated “This Mortal Coil”, “Keep On Rotting In A Free World”, “Corporal Jigsaw Quandary” and the final “Heartwork”, assisted by original drummer Ken Owen on air – drums. An awsome appearance!

Dimmu Borgir The Norwegians aren’t a consensus band for the With Full Force – visitors: Some love, some hate! For the first type of WFF – spectators this show became an entertaining one although Shagrath who wore a black skipper cap, Silenoz & Co didn’t move that much. The show was played tight, supported by a bombastic sound and songs like the opener “Spellbound (By The Devil)”, “Puritania” or “Kings Of The Carnival Creation” felt somehow majestic. From “The Serpentine Offering” on pyro effects supported them visually which ended in a little firework display while “Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse”. Some would have liked to hear “Mourning Palace”, anyway: Good show! Time for a new album!

Soulfly After ruling last year’s – WFF – sunday with his brother and The Cavalera Conspiracy Max Cavalera returned for another time with his own formation opening with the hits “Prophecy” and “Back To The Primitive” motivating their fans to take part in from the beginning of the show. The supporters jumped to “Living Sacrifice”, the new “Conquer” – track “War Ghost” as of course to “Jumpdafuckup”. The whole audience welcomed the Sepultura – classics “Refuse / Resist” and “Roots, Bloody, Roots” with loud jubilation and several pits finishing this appearance.

Tent Stage: Hardbowl
Myra The local heroes from the close city of Leipzig started this year’s Hardbowl – happening. And the fivepiece surprised me with good songs and an intense stage – acting achieving the first pits of the 2009 – WFF – edition. Metalcore – smashers like “Third Rate Violation” and “New Blood Will Run” from their current longplayer – debut “The Venom it Drips” as “Trigger Happy” from the older self-titled EP animated the crowd to interact. More of that!

Maroon Before the WFF one of Germany’s leading Metalcore – bands got the offer to play on Main Stage. But they decided to rock the Hardbowl before changing on the biggest stage next time. And they did it for sure, the tent was totally filled up, the quintet performed probably one of their very best shows causing many pits and crowdsurfers. Fronter as entertainer André Moraweck took part in during “(Reach) The Sun”: Getting back on stage he joked: “You stink like pigs!” He dedicated the hit “Wake Up In Hell! to Michael Jackson. The crowd also celebrated new “Order” – material like “Stay Brutal” and its opener “Erode” which marked the end of an awesome performance. The sound was okay, just the guitar solos weren’t really audible.

Die Kassierer The Punk – weirdos from Bochum – Wattenscheid returned to headline the Hardbowl, and for another time it wasn’t boring at all. Fronter Wölfi celebrated the second one “Mein Schöner Hodensack” with a spectator who obeyed Wölfi’s animation to strip while “Besoffen Sein”, “Sex Mit Dem Sozialarbeiter” and “Mein Gehirnvolumen” taking off clothes song by song. After some ironic anti-sexism-animation-choir-singalongs with the crowd before playing “Mach Die Titten Frei” they also interacted with the audience in a varied version (“Mach Den Pimmel Frei”) the fourpiece continued with “Kuckuck”. Wölfi announced to perform “Mein Schöner Hodensack” for a second time because of current reason and stripped himself. The madmen closed their set by “Arsch Abwischen”, “Das Schlimmste Ist, Wenn Das Bier Alle Ist”, “Ich Töte Meinen Nachbarn Und Verprügel Seine Leiche”, “Schnaps Und Bier”, the self-ironic “Mein Glied Ist Zu Groß”, “Ufo” and “Tot Tot Tot”.

Tent Stage: Knüppelnacht
Pestilence I start with the Knüppelnacht – conclusion: The opener became the absolute winner! The Dutch Prog Death Metal – legend rocked the stage and impressed by their tightness performing their complex compositions. During the gig more spectators arrived in the tent after the Main Stage – headliner had finished. The quartet considered songs from the new reunion – album “Resurrection Macabre” (“Horror Detox”, “Hate Suicide”) as their classics (“The Secrecies Of Horror”, “The Process Of Suffocation”, “Land Of Tears”, the final “Out Of Body”) and caused much headbanging action in the tent, supported by a great sound!

God Seed This level was much to high for the blackies who had formerly been known as Gorgoroth, but Gaahl and King had lost the judicial process and were in need to change their band’s name. We can conclude: Two crosses on stage, with one man and one woman crossed, some said with the partners of the two mainmen. Call it gender justice, I don’t mind. The music as the performance of the corpsepainted group sucked totally.

Asphyx Second winner of the night became another reunited Dutch band playing Death Metal! Supported by a powerful sound the fivepiece around fronter Martin van Drunen showed a powerful stageacting performing some material from their comeback-album “Death … The Brutal Way” without ignoring classics like “M.S. Bismarck”, “Wasteland Of Terror”, “Asphyx” and the final “The Rack”. The band as all the fans celebrated the show with 40-minutes-lasting headbanging. After the show the musicians drove directly to Essen to perform another great show there on the next day, people told us.

Helheim The surprise of the Knüppelnacht were the Norwegians completely suited in chain shirts. Instead of a wannabe – evil – show the vikings showed their experimental epic compositions. Instead of ridiculous corpsepaint they chose the element of several video projections. And although a few tired spectators left the tent the quartet convinced most of the spectators. With a clear sound and songs from their current album “Kaoskult” as older ones they created a cool atmosphere. Thumbs up for the best Black Metal – band of the night!

Vader I expected another live massacre by the Polish Death Metal – commando like I had been used to. Many fans must have felt the same way because the tent got refilled. But this time the fourpiece disappointed. They played their highlights like “Silent Empire”, “Xeper” and “Epitaph”, but somehow it didn’t work this night. I missed the energy on stage as in the tent at all. Next time!

Eisregen Like their latest With Full Force – participation in 2003 it was up to Eisregen to finish the Knüppelnacht between the deepest night and the early morning. But it wasn’t only the upcoming sun, the band mainly took care of a fast evacuation every airline or building management would have been proud of. Tracks like the opener “Eisenkreuzkrieger” and comments by their mainman like “Cancer is out, Lepra is in” were just superfluous as one of the mentioned sicknesses. Good night!

Saturday
Main Stage
Hackneyed After another brutal Knüppelnacht the next day started with Death Metal continuing up-tempo-speed and grunts. Because of the short-term-cancelation of the Callejon – gig which should had happened on the Tent Stage right at the same time the number of spectators raised. The Death Metal – teens entertained them with tracks from their last year released debut “Death Prevails” (the opener “Axe Splatter”, “Worlds Collide”, “Neon Sun” and their hit “Gut Candy”) and showed some material from the forthcoming album (“Deatholution”, “March Of The Worms”) and earned applause from the audience.

Nervecell This WFF – participant was an exotic one, but just from the geographic view. The fourpiece from Dubai presented Death Metal on a high international level. They convinced most of the left spectators with their material mainly based on their “Preaching Venom” – debut. Check it out!

Warbringer The Californians had less popularity problems. The pretty new band celebrated old school Thrash Metal and did this with much passion and intensity. Their fans banged their heads to the well-balanced set between the band’s debut “War Without End” and the brandnew “Waking Into Nightmares”.

All Shall Perish The following fivepiece also calls the golden state their home. In contrast to Warbringer they sounded more modern without ignoring their roots which was probably the main reason for the meanwhile raised audience celebrating tight performed Deathcore – tracks like “Wage Of Slaves” with a circle-pit.

Suicidal Tendencies The return of the Crossover – founders turned out to one of the best comeback gigs ever and the best WFF-2009-show. Besides one new track the band played one hymn after another. Starting with the phenomenal uptempo-smasher “You Can’t Bring Me Down” and the following “War Inside My Head” they overwhelmed the huge audience from the beginning. So vocalist and bandleader Mike Muir announced the WFF – crowd the ‘church of suicidal” before performing “Send Me Your Money”. The master himself ran the stage up and down and showed good fitness stamina for his age while his bandmates showed their abilities on their instruments without forgetting to be in motion. Drummer Eric Moore played the most amazing drum solo we probably all have ever seen. He didn’t only play drums, he played with the drums. So after one of Muir’s speeches about hundred fans populated the stage to appear with the band to the final song and band hymn “Pledge Your Allegiance”. Outstanding!

Sepultura This appearance fulfilled my as probably anyone’s expectations: The songs of the newer phase caused applause, the classics moshpits. After those three newer tracks the Brasilian Metal – icon started their best of phase with “Refuse / Resist” followed by “Dead Embryonic Cells”, “Troops Of Doom”, “Escape To The Void”, “Inner Self”, “Arise” and the final “Roots Bloody Roots” while masses of fans raged in the pits. The new drummer Jean Dolabella did a good job and fronter Derrick Green showed another strong performance while the two bandleaders Andreas Kisser and Paulo Jr. acted pretty calm.

Der W. To me it was the first time watching ex – Die Böhsen Onkelz – songwriter and – bassist Stephan Weidner, and I got surprised. The German Rock from his solo – debut “Höher, Schneller, Weidner” worked well, the honest lyrics, the melodic Rock and the sympathic performance of the instrumentalists in general as of mainman Weidner himself. So most of the present spectators reacted with applause to the opener “Der W Zwo Drei”, “Waffen & Neurosen” and “Schatten”. Just the person in front of me must have fought an inner conflict showing his middle finger during the whole show while clapping with one foot in the rhythm! Maybe he disagreed with the Svitek (Miami Vice) – remambrance – shirt of the dreadlocked bassist.

Amon Amarth The vikings from Norway performed as expected: New “Twilight Of The Thunder God” – material like its title track and “Guardians Of Asgaard” got jubilated as the main classics like “Runes To My Memory”, “Dragon’s Flight Across The Waves”, “Asator”, Live For The Kill”, “Victorious March”, “Pursuit Of Vikings”, “Cry Of The Blackbirds” and the final “Death In Fire” got jubilated by the fans. Supported by a cool (pyro) effect show the appearance became a special one. Just the individual perfomance seemed a bit too experienced after a long term of touring.

Hatebreed In contrast to my as scene – typic expectations the nowadays leading Hardcore – band from New York celebrated their headliner – slot they got the first time in Roitzschjora with a respectable pyro show supporting their high live intensity visually. Fronter Jamey Jasta and his comrades renounced playing tracks from their current tribute cover album and preferred performing their own greatest hits with “Defeatist”, “To The Threshold”, “Live For This”, “This Is Now” and their hymn “I Will Be Heard”. The band felt great playing for the biggest crowd of the whole weekend which shouted especially the last three mentioned titles with thousands of voices. What a Harcore force!

Tent Stage: Hardbowl
Narziss Narziss filled up the tent in the afternoon. The Metalcore-band from Jena is well-known for their German lyrics as for their massive live-performances. So nobody took care about the fact there was no light show support and created several moshpits to “Meine Kleine Seele”, “Beschlagene Gedanken” (from the new “Echo” – release), the hit “Entstelltes Bild”, “Und Du Verblasst”, “Morgen Nicht Geboren”. Fronter Alex impressed by his grunts, shouts, clean vocals and an active stageacting. He pointed out to their meet & greet including an ass-clap-offer. On the other side the fivepiece dedicated a song to a departed friend, performed a ballad and invited the Callejon – fronter to a guest – appearance on stage. Strong show!

Emil Bulls What a comeback! Germany’s former leader in Crossover is back, and stronger than ever. After disappointing on last year’s Summer Breeze especially vocalist Christoph showed a much improved performance. Besides his usual microphone he had another one he had to knee down for use which happened several times. After Manowar’s “The Crown And The Ring” as their intro the band started with the current single “The Most Evil Spell” in their set. Their very agile performance caused several circle-pits and a respectable wall of death in the end of the show.

Mucky Pup Pure entertainment followed in the tent. A long time had passed till I had the pleasure to watch the Funk Rock / Metal – / Crossover – weirdos from New Jersey. They entertained the audience with “3 Little Pigs”, “Knock Knock”, “P.T.L.”, “Death By Cholesterol”, “Three Dead Gophers”, “U-Stink-But-I-Love-You” and their hit “Hippies Hate Water”. Guitar – jack-of-all-trades Dan Nastase brought the groove, fronter Chris Milnes stripped in the end of the show finding a banana in his slip. Well done!

Tent Stage: Saturday Night Fever
The Carburetors As in 2008 the Saturday Night Fever was a complete Rock ‘n’ Roll – event. Till this year I had never heard about this band from Oslo before I noticed them on several festival – billings. Many WFF – visitors must have known more about them celebrating the show with several fire effects as the title track from their current release “Rock ‘n’ Roll Forever” which was supposed to become the attitude of the night.

Reno Divorce The quartet from Denver offered a pretty Social Distortion – related sound. The audience had become a bit smaller, but those who had stayed had fun rocking to “Say It”, “How Long It’s Been”, “What Were You Sayin’” and the Motörhead – classic “Ace Of Spades”. Sympathic!

Smoke Blow The time had come for the veterans from North Germany opening with “Zombie auf’m Klapprad”. The Punkrock – sixpack with two fronters presented three new tracks from their forthcoming output. The crowd partied while “Alligator Radio”, “Dark Angel” and the Billy Idol – cover “Rebell Yell”.

D:A:D After an Ennio Morricone – intro the quartet from Denmark started with “Riskin’ It All” in one of the show-highlights. Pyros, exotic costumes, several very exotic basses of fourstringer Stig Pedersen and a tight as technical high-skilled performance of “Jihad”, “No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims”, “Everything Glows”, “Reconstrucdead”, “Bad Craziness”, “Sleeping My Day Away” before they bid farewell with the title track of the current “Monster Philosophy” – album marking the end of an awesome Hardrock – appearance.

Sunday
Main Stage
Elsterglanz Comedy Rock / Metal – acts as a day opener have their own tradition at the WFF like AOK or Mambo Kurt had filled that role in the billing. This combo seemed to be pretty popular in East Germany populating the festivalsite with many supporters partying with an entertaining band in different costumes, funny stage show ideas as comments.

Scarab The quintet from Cairo won the “United We Rock” – competition and qualified for a slot on the WFF – billing. It was probably the one and only formation for this position because the Egyptians were perhaps the only band still being able to act while those hot temperatures. So the number of spectators had become much less in comparison to Elsterglanz. Who expected some oriental sounds expected the wrong. The tight band combining tracks from their two EPs with material from their forthcoming full-length – debut sounded very US-Death-Metal-related, but also a bit too monotonous.

Deadlock The securities reacted very astonished when listening to the techno-sounds of the intro “The Moribund Choir Vs. The Trumpets Of Armageddon” which opened the set as the new masterpiece “Manifesto” together with “Martyr To Science” followed by the first (“Code Of Honor”) and the new (“The Brave / Agony Applause”) video – single. The young sixpiece showed their live abilities being placed right on the Main Stage. Fronter Johannes presenting the aggressive vocals part animated the crowd for the first little wall of death of the day while Sabine impressed with her clean vocals, especially in the end of “Awakened By Sirens”. The band played the following “Death Race” without its rap-part. But the last title included its techno – passage, Sabine should just renounce these techno – shouts. Great gig!

Raunchy First of all it was difficult to comprehend watching the fronter entering the stage wearing a cap as a sweat-shirt while this hot afternoon. Anyway, beginning with “Remembrance” and “Watch Out” the Danish band showed a strong performance playing Crossover with high hit potential each song. The presented “Bash” as “Warriors” from the brandnew album “Wasteland Discotheque” showed the the described catchyness as well. Pointing out on Michael Jackson’s death they played the Rockwell-cover “Somebody’s Watching Me” which worked very well in its rock – interpretation before rocking again by “Join The Scene” with another “Death Pop Romance” – hit. The vocals worked, the sound was clear as massive. This appearance rocked!

Parkway Drive Wow, this fivepiece from Down Under had just released two longplayer albums, one EP and one split – album, but it called lots of fans their own celebrating their Metalcore – heroes. After shouter Winston McCall had entered the stage with a tricycle his band started performing their show with high energy. “The Siren’s Song”, “Idols And Anchors”, “Carrion”, “Deadman’s Chest” and the final “Romance Is Dead” got celebrated by many fans in wild moshpits.

Ignite After headlining the Hardbowl on their latest WFF – participations the quintet evolved to the Main Stage this year. “Our Darkest Days” was and is still their current release, in deed a very strong one. Anyway, they’re able to fill the place in front of them and to rock this place. From its beginning by “Bleeding” and “Let It Burn” the crowd jumped and partied while fronter Zoli who mentioned to be proud to share the stage with Mike Ness’ Social Distortion had some problems with a stage technician. A little bit later he took as always the chance to point out on a social organization as this time for the ‘Children Of The Night’. After performing “Fear Is Our Tradition” and “By My Side” Zoli proclaimed against national pride (“We’re all people!”) to continue with “Poverty For All”. After the U2 – cover “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” and Zoli’s apologizes for being sick singing not in his usual level the band closed with “Live For Better Days” and “Veteran”.

Down When the quintet entered the stage this wasn’t just a super star group. No, this was a bunch of good friends having lots of fun together on stage besides playing undying perls of their three masterpieces. Sixstringer Kirk Windstein hugged bassist Rex Paul for several times and even kissed him while Phil Anselmo showed an impressing vocal performance. Their numerous fans saw an awesome show of an amazing band and celebrated “New Orleans Is A Dying Whore”, “Lifer” which was dedicated to Dimebag Darrell, “Ghosts Along The Mississippi”, “Lysergic Funeral Procession” and “Stone The Crow”. After “Hail The Leaf” and “Bury Me In Smoke” the band left the stage rendering their instruments to their crew. The pretty stoned Phil returned to perform the seemingly unscheduled Led Zeppelin – classic “Stairway To Heaven”. Compliment for the persons in charge for being kind as for the great sound.

Social Distortion Probably the most awaited band of the festival was the Punk ‘n’ Roll – legend who got a loud welcome while entering the stage after some mexican – sounding intro to play one of their especially in Europe very rare gigs. This one also contained with “Can’t Take It With You” and “Still Alive” two new tracks. The rest of the set consisted of a greatest hits – program including “The Creeps”, “Mommy’s Little Monster”, “Don’t Drag Me Down”, the Johnny Cash – tribute “Ring Of Fire”, “Reach For The Sky”, “Don’t Turn Away”, “Nickels & Dimes”, “Alone And Forsaken”, “Highway 101” and “The Story Of My Life”. After this last of three encores mainman Mike Ness and his comrades left the stage after some nice gig which probably may have caused more energy in a club. Anyway, cool to see them on the WFF – Main Stage!

Motörhead The last time I watched a Motörhead – appearance at WFF was in 2005 and Lemmy didn’t really look comfortable, so I got afraid about Mr. Kilmister. But for god’s sake I was wrong. His trio opened with “Iron Fist”, “Stay Clean” and “Rock Out”. From the first minute they got massive support of all the Rock ‘n’ Roll – fans having their outstanding day on the Main Stage with Down, Social Distortion and Motörhead. So they celebrated “Metropolis”, “Killed By Death” (assisted by Skew Siskin’s Nina C. Alice), “Going To Brazil”, “Over The Top”, “Another Perfect Day” and the indestructable double finisher consisting of “Ace Of Spades” and “Overkill”. Motörhead are still on top!

Tent Stage: Hardbowl
The Sorrow The Metalcore – shooting stars from Austria were obviously motivated. They animated the crowd to massive crowdsurfing while performing material from their new release “Origin Of The Storm (“Where Is The Sun”, “Scars”) as tracks from their “Blessings From A Blackened Sky” – debut (“Far Beyond The Days Of Grace”, “Saviour Welcome Home”). Fronter Mätze convinced with his variable voice as his bandmates with their tightness although the criticism proves them right souding very similar to Killswitch Engage. Anyway, the crowd rocked with circle-pits and a wall of death.

Tent Stage: The Last Supper
End Of Green First of all the Dark Rockers from South West Germany had the bad – luck their appearance overlapped with the last 15 minutes of Motörhead who were still playing on the Main Stage. Nevertheless they rocked the tent as its raising number of spectators by “Killhoney” and “Die Lover Die” from their current “The Sick’s Sense” – album as by the familiar “Highway 69” and “Drink Myself To Sleep”. The band fitted to the last tent night ideally.

My Dying Bride The first Last Supper just happening with three instead of four acts in WFF – history had a simple reason: The two legends My Dying Bride and Anathema who travelled together by nightliner from Great Britain to Roitzschjora shouldn’t just play as usual for 40 minutes, they got an hour. The absoute right decision by the organizers! The band around the mystic vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe put their main focus on their new masterpiece “For Lies I Sire” like the opener “Fall With Me” or the final “My Body, The Funeral”. Of course they didn’t forget wonderful epics like “Turn Lose The Swans”, “The Cry Of Mankind”, “She Is The Dark” and “The Dreadful Hours”. The band performed, but didn’t animate, being a complete antithesis to most of the bands in the scene as of the weekend. The powerful music did the talking. Just bassist Lena should leave her stupid hat in the wardrobe.

Anathema Due to technical problems it took some time before the three Cavanagh – brothers and their bandmates were able to begin. Danny took care about some atmosphere in the crowd. When they started with “Fragile Dreams” it turned out to one party celebrating great compositions like “Empty”, “Lost Control”, “Closer”, “A Natural Desaster”, “Only You” and “Judgement”, the last three mentioned ones with the female vocals of Lee Douglas. Suddenly the band got the message they had just five minutes left. So they played the fabulous “Sleepless” before leaving. But they got the chance to return for an encore, just singer Vincent didn’t get the news. So after waiting and jamming for some time the band started without him performing Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” and Danny did the vocals excellently. In the middle of the song Vincent returned. The Cavanagh – brothers as the band got completed and played this wonderful end of an outstanding show together.

Conclusion:
The With Full Force 2009 was probably the hottest one of all times! The sun shined all the day(s). Besides the weather the organization worked well for another time. The only cancelation was the mentioned one.
The prices for food and beverages had been for another time as fair as the WFF is well-known for it (e.g. 2,40 Euro for a 0,4l beer or softdrink).
We sadly need to mention a young woman had lost her life on the camping area before the festival program already started. The police denied any possibility of an criminal act or exterior impact. We wish all the best to her family and to her friends!
Our special thanks go out to Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann, Bogo Ritter and the WFF-team!!!!!
At the With Full Force 2009 rocked, drank and partied Tobi Wan Kenobi and Sebi Sebericks!!!!!
