SOBER THURSDAY on DONG 2017

Our friends of the DONG Open Air have news: 😉
We continue to try and make your improvement suggestions happen as we plan each new Dong Open Air. The online visitor poll revealed to us that we appear to have missed out on a great gastronomical trend! If you think about it, it doesn’t really come as a surprise that the soccer culture sets yet another trend.

We are talking of non-alcoholic beer, near-beer! We are happy to serve your best interest as you requested and are happy to announce that we will not only start to serve non-alcoholic beer in general, but take it a step further to make Dong Thursday a sober day: We will only serve soft drinks and near-beer.
Non-alcoholic beer has come a long way in terms of taste and your arguments in regards of avoiding excessive consumption, or keeping it quiet during night hours have convinced us.
Many things that happen on a festival only take place because people are inebriated. In times like these with constant surveillance (we’re talking facebook facial recognition), you should think twice about presenting yourself (half) naked or showing facets that might suggest you were temporarily a bit full (of yourself).

In order to underline the wholeheartedness with which we are approaching our endeavour, we are going to release our first, exclusive festival beer, which contains 0.0% alcohol. Our “Double-Zero-Dong” will only be available at the Dong Open Air and it will be the first official festival beer of Mount Moshmore!
We are going document the production of this beer for you so we can keep you up to date in the weeks and months before the festival.

We are looking forward to drinking with your on our festival Thursday!
Cheers,
Your Dong Team

DONG – Rage, Burden of grief and Gloryful added to lineup

Our friends of the DONG Open Air have news:
Dear moshers,
unfortunately, due the lack of interest in yesterday’s announcement, we had to cancel the whole throne with a view concept.
Instead, we got you some final thunder for the line up: The reborn institution of the Ruhrpott metal scene, Rage, are completing our selection of headliners for this year, and will bring some fresh wind up the hill with their latest album (the first in four years!), skillfully proving that power metal with balls exists! Burden of Grief are going to add a fine fusillade of thrash metal to the mix!
Last but not least, we are going to finalize the 2016 line up with a hopeful power metal newcomer who have earned their spurs not too far from the Dong hill: Gloryful.
Well, everyone, we’ve let the cats out of the bag and quite suitably the weather is starting to get better. How about it? Three days of party and camping on Mount Moshmore with Testament, Amorphis, Bloodbath, Equilibrium, Rage, Haggard, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Suidakra, Skyclad, Hackneyed, and the finest of the international underground! Sounds good to you? Get your ticket now!
We are looking forward to see you!

DONG News

Our friends of the DONG Open Air have news:
It’s not a secret, our beloved heavy metal is changing. It’s time to follow some trends. A festival is more than a meadow, a stage, bands, and beer! We have closely watched the development of the programs framing the mega festivals and reverently bow our heads. But it is not only the charm of the exceptional, but also the strong approval of the visitors encouraged us to expand our very own “extra program” this year.
The incredible view of Ruhr region and the lower Rhine presented us with the excellent opportunity of providing an “event toilet”. We are going to fence in a less frequented part of the hill for our “thrones” for perfect placement. “Perfect” meaning: Right by the edge of the hill, with a lovely view of the scenery. Best view? Exactly the point. The stalls will be set up in a discreet distance, and have a maximum occupancy of 1 person each. We have created three different stall experiences for you, which we are going to introduce here:
Model “Real nature” does not vary too much from your regular toilet stall. The main difference can be seen in the door, which in the “real nature” experience, is made from see-through Plexiglas, allowing for an undisturbed view into the scenery. However, you are still save from wind and weather conditions, making an extended stay on the throne even nicer.
“Frozen Poo Poo” is a bit more exciting. Let’s get serious, if we want something special, we’ll go the whole nine yards. “Frozen Poo Poo” is almost identical with „real nature“, but we omitted the whole door. Now you can join the potential thunder from the sky or the stage, and still enjoy the fresh air in a moment where you really need it.
“King of the Hill” – We’ll keep it with the Highlander: There can only be one! A special throne for the kind of person who admittedly ought be quite extroverted. The “King of the Hill” is completely made of see-through Plexiglas. Walls, roof, door. All Plexiglas. Nothing should stand in the way of you enjoying nature!
If we sparked your interest, give us a shout in the form of a comment or registration, so we can make sure there is a sufficient count of stalls for everyone. However, we will only provide on “King of the Hill” as it rarely is a good idea to have two competing royals on one hill at the same time.
In case you’re all up for this, we might just consider ditching the regular porta-potties altogether. Where’s the fun if you can use those old things pretty much anywhere.

DONG: Haggard coming…

Our friends of the DONG Open Air have news:
You thought that we were done? Wrong? Haggard will be one of the headliners of the sixteenth Dong Open Air! The masters of the symbiosis of death metal and medieval classics are currently working on the completion of their newest album “Grimm”, but still – just like Bloodbath – rarely go on stage. Which is yet another reason we’re majorly excited!
And since we’re talking about rare occasions: You quite certainly have never seen our latest addition, Ignition, live before. That’s probably because this power metal act just very recently emerged from the depths of Duisburg. But they already managed to create some impressive stuff! Check out their band profile and see if you can spot any known faces plotting to play good music!
If you now think we’re done announcing the line-up – you’re wrong again! 🙂 Get your ticket now, so you have something to do while you’re waiting for July!
See you soon!

Skyclad at DONG 2016

Our friends of the DONG Open Air have news:
There are news from Skyclad! Dave Pugh, guitarist from 1991 to 1995, is part of the current lineup! Dave was part of the recordings of “Prince of the Poverty Line” and “The Silent Whales of Lunar Sea,” which by now are not only classics, but also turned out fairly thrashy for folk metal. This old facet shines anew with Dave in the band, so we felt compelled to invite the Claddies back to the hill!
Along with Skyclad, we asked apRon to join us, a young bad from Germany who have a tendency for some circus airs on stage, and a sound somewhere between System of a Down and Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung. If you are not entirely sure what this means, make sure you’re there to find out!
Another blow right in your face will be delivered by Kryptos. The guys from Bangalore devoted their lives to old school thrash and are rightfully India’s most popular metal export!
Horns up,
Your Dong Team
