This year the WFF happened while the best soccer national teams of the world played the world championship (quarter finals while that weekend) in Germany (Seems like the same pattern the WFF-concept works!). Like two years ago while the European soccer championship happened the WFF- organizors offered a big screen behind the Hardbowl and also showed the Germany quarter final match without sound on the Main Stage-screen while Trivium, Stone Sour and Madball appeared next to it. Despite those offered extra opportunities the ticket prices didn\u2019t rise which speaks for the WFF-team who offered a well-organised Open Air. Well done! At the airfield of Roitzschjora played 64 bands on two stages in three days for about 22000 visitors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Main Stage<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>The Anti Doctrine<\/strong> The Metalcore-quintet from D\u00fcsseldorf wasn\u2019t too complicated. No, they were too weird. The tracks from their longplayer-debut \u201cA World Elite And Its Downfall\u201d (Before that the fivepiece just published an EP \u201cPatterns Of Liquid Red\u201d.) didn\u2019t convince at all. Hopefully the Roadrunner-signing can improve its sound a lot to avoid such a confused performance like in Roitzschjora.<br \/>\nBloodsimple Metalcore with Neurosis-influences from Long Island invaded the stage. With success! The band around ex-Vision Of Disorder-members Mike Kennedy and shouter Tim Williams caught the meanwhile 10000 spectators by material from their \u201cA Cruel World\u201d-debut like \u201cStraight Hate\u201d, \u201cWhat If I Lost It\u201d or the final \u201cPath To Prevail\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Devildriver<\/strong> Coal Chamber or Devil Driver? I definitely prefer Devil Driver! The new band of Dez Farfara rocks much more! So they did on the WFF: The Neo-Thrash-act performed a well-balanced set concluding songs from their self-named debut as from their current \u201cThe Fury Of Our Maker\u2019s Hand\u201d like \u201cDie (And Die Now)\u201d, \u201cHold Back The Day\u201d as of course the hit \u201cI Could Care Less\u201d and got much applause.<br \/>\n<strong>Trivium<\/strong> Much more than just applause was earned by Florida\u2019s finest. The young boys from Orlando are definitely the rising Metal-band nowadays. The Thrash-hopefuls had just one opponent: The suspending quarter final between Germany and Argentina. The WFF-organisation decided right to show the match on the Main Stage-screen, too. So the crowd was able to watch the match as to celebrate smashers like \u201cLike Light To Flies\u201d, \u201cPull Harder The Strings Of Your Martyr\u201d, \u201cA Gunshot to the Head Of Trepidation\u201d well performed by Matthew Heafy &#038; Co. I just hope to watch them returning to the WFF without appearing against any soccer game!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stone Sour<\/strong> Other band, same problem! Supported by a bombastic sound the side-band of Slipknots fronter Corey Taylor and sixstringer James Root performed a cool set between material from their self-titled debut (\u201cBother\u201d, \u201cInhale\u201d) and a few songs of their forthcoming album \u201cCome What(ever) May\u201d (the title track, \u201cReborn\u201d). But the atmosphere on the spectatorside got disturbed by the 0:1 for Argentina. And the crowd got even much more concentrated on the video screen. So Corey got suddenly surprised when Germany shot the 1:1. Supported by the German national team the rest of the set became a big party on the festivalsite which got finished by \u201cGet Inside\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madball<\/strong> So after the match had ended in a draw the New York City-Hardcore-institution appeared while the overtime. Those visitors who (also) focused the stage might have noticed soccer wasn\u2019t the only exciting topic this sunny afternoon. But against the final penalty shootout in such an important match even the most powerful sound is without any chance. A matter the also powerful Dutch-Metalcore-band Born From Pain had to arrange with in the Hardbowl tent meanwhile whose national team had even quit the championship a round before, huhu. Ignoring the cricumstances Roger Miret\u2019s semi-brother Freddy Cricien and his comrades Hoya, Miggs and Rigg Ross demonstrated their style and rocked the stage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kreator<\/strong> Green smoke covered the whole Main Stage. Time for the attack of the German Thrash Metal-legend around the one and only Mille Petrozza! Starting with the title track of their new album \u201cEnemy Of God\u201d and \u201cImpossible Brutality\u201d Essen\u2019s finest showed another intense appearance. In its middle two biplanes flew over the festival crowd for several times to cover the heaven above finally with red smoke. The best-of-set left no wishes open by \u201cPhobia\u201d, \u201cTerrible Certainty\u201d, \u201cViolent Revolution\u201d, \u201cExtreme Aggressions\u201d, People Of The Lie\u201d, \u201cTerror Zone\u201d, \u201cPleasure To Kill\u201d, \u201cFlag Of Hate\u201d and the set closing surprise \u201cBetrayer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soulfly<\/strong> While the second soccer quarter final Italy against Ukraine (3:0) Max Cavalera and his combo played a routined set. No more, no less! The co-headliner excited its fans with songs from the new output \u201cDark Ages\u201d (\u201cArise Again\u201d, \u201cBabylon\u201d), familiar Soulfly-tracks from the past releases (\u201cFire\u201d, \u201cBack To The Primitive\u201d, \u201cThe Prophet\u201d, \u201cSeek \u2018N\u2019 Strike\u201d, \u201cProphecy\u201d) and good old Sepultura-classics (\u201cRoots\u201d, \u201cTroops Of Doom\u201d). So far, so cool! But Max stuck on my as many others\u2019 nerves filling up the stage with family members and whoever felt able to use drumsticks to start a total unnecessary percussion-jam-session. As superfluous as solos while festival shows!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Celtic Frost<\/strong> After the Swiss legend had been forced to cancel their Rock Hard-headliner-slot due to sanitary problems it was up to them to headline the WFF-Friday seperated the crowd into two contrary sides. The especially younger spectators didn\u2019t mind about this kind of sound and went away. The Die Hard-fans got tears in their eyes when their idols began after an atmospheric intro with \u201cProcreation (Of The Wicked)\u201d, \u201cDethroned Emperor\u201d and \u201cJewel Throne\u201d. Fronter Thomas G. Fischer, bassist Martin Eric Ain, drummer Franco Sesa and live-guitarist Erol Unala didn\u2019t renounce any big light or pyro show elements and let the music do the talking by classics like \u201cNecromentical Screams\u201d, \u201cInto The Crypt Of Rays\u201d, \u201cThe Usurper\u201d, \u201cCircle Of The Tyrants\u201d and the final \u201cTriptych\u201d. That was probably the WFF-headliner with the fewest supporters, but possibly with some of the happiest ones.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tent Stage: Hardbowl<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Deadsoil<\/strong> The Metalcore-hopefuls from Duisburg had the honour to open this year\u2019s WFF-Hardball-tent. And they were definitely worth it! The Lifeforce-signing mainly concentrated on their strong new album \u201cSacrifice\u201d without ignoring material from its predecessors \u201cForever The Enemy\u201d and \u201cThe Venom Divine\u201d. After motivating the crowd to pretty massive pits the band left the stage after heir new hit \u201cUnspoken\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boysetsfire<\/strong> The Emo-Core-band headlined the Hardbowl on the WFF-friday. The fivepiece from Delaware had become much more popular the months before. So the tent was pretty filled up with curious fans including a big female supportership. Ignoring the second soccer quarter final between Italy and Ukraine (result: 3:0) they went wild to the melodies of their heros around shouter Nathan Gray. Just a few weeks later the band announced their split. Sad but true!<\/p>\n<p><em>Tent Stage: Kn\u00fcppelnacht<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Dismember<\/strong> While friday-headliner Celtic Frost still appeared on the Main Stage the Kn\u00fcppelnacht started with classic Death Metal from Stockholm. Supported by a powerful sound the fivepiece performed very motivated hammers like \u201cTragedy Of The Faithful\u201d, \u201cOverride Of The Overture\u201d, \u201cCasket Garden\u201d or \u201cSoon To Be Dead\u201d which was celebrated by a pretty crowded tent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Napalm Death<\/strong> The Grindcore-legend from Birmingham raised the speed as sound brutality and crushed the filled up tent. The crowd didn\u2019t care about having one hour past midnight and started a wild moshpit. The right soundtrack to the pit scenes consisted of material from the current \u201cThe Code Is Red&#8230;Long Live The Code\u201d-release (\u201cDon\u2019t Believe In Nothing, Just Believe In Yourself\u201d, the title track), cover versions of Warpath (\u201cPolitician\u201d) and Dead Kennedys (\u201cNazi Punks Fuck Off\u201d) and own classics (\u201cHarmony Corruption\u201d, \u201cSiege Of Power\u201d, \u201cYou Suffer\u201d, \u201cScum\u201d). Despite the undifferentiated sound a cool gig!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mystic Cricle<\/strong> The Kn\u00fcppelnacht included three Death Metal- as three Black Metal bands and the best Black Metal-performance was shown by the threepiece from Worms. Of course they didn\u2019t have the same huge crowd as the two bands before, but they convinced with their best-of-set containing just one track from their new album \u201cThe Bloody Path Of God\u201d (\u201cUnholy Terror\u201d) and their hits \u201cGod Is Dead &#8211; Satan Arise\u201d, \u201cOpen The Gates Of Hell\u201d and \u201cMedina (Satan\u2019s Whore)\u201d earned pretty much support, especially from the wild fanatics in the first row!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dark Fortress<\/strong> Much worse felt the gig of the Blackies from South Germany. The tent became much emptier while fronter Azatoth and his comrades performed mostly tracks from their current third output \u201cStab Wounds\u201d like \u201cWhen 1000 Crypts Awake\u201d and \u201cSelf-Mutilation\u201d. The litlle die-hard-group was entertained, me wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disbelief<\/strong> Like two years before the fivepiece from Hessen (Central Germany) replaced a band which had cancelled its festival participation before. This time they replaced Deicide and for another time they did a great job! Supported by a brutal sound they created their grooving Death Metal-monsters and covered the tent which became fuller again with their unique psychedelic atmosphere. The crowd celebrated newer hits like \u201cSick\u201d and \u201cRewind It All (Death Or Glory)\u201d from the \u201c66Sick\u201d-album as older ones like \u201cMisery\u201d and \u201cTo The Sky\u201d, so this gig became a big late night highlight! Because of time problems they weren\u2019t allowed to play the last song. Hoppefully next time Jagger &#038; Co get engaged earlier to get a planned position on the billing! They deserve it!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Endstille<\/strong> At 4:35 p.m. the third German Black Metal-band and the last one for the following few hours entered the stage. The gig was pretty similar to the one of Dark Fortress, just without keyboards and (because of the late\/early time) a smaller spectatorship. The few fans were happy\/evil about older tracks like \u201cFr\u00fchlingserwachen\u201d (from the so-titled release) and newer material like \u201cI Bless You&#8230; God\u201d (\u201cfrom the current \u201cNavigator\u201d-output). To me the best moment of this gig from this wannabe-evil-band was its end at 5:15 p.m.. So I wen\u2019t to sleep!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Main Stage<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>A.O.K.<\/strong> My first time watching a performance of the Nonsense-core was supposed to become an entertaining one. Just in the beginning of their show the two shouters who were suited like soccer fields and who brought Germany fan flags on stage threw much salad into the crowd. After two songs one fronter announced the next track \u201cHinterlader\u201d by showing his butt. From this on the two shouters often showed nearly everything of their bodies. While the third song \u201cBaguette\u201d Jochen Graf took a few of those, crumbled them over his penis as his butt and threw it into the audience. Hm, delicious! Cool was the 10 seconds lasting track \u201cStromausfall\u201d showing the band acting and posing just without any sound. After another huge cabbage-battle and their parodies of Mot\u00f6rhead and Manowar the chaos combo made their final stand by \u201cButzemann Slayer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Raunchy<\/strong> The following appearance of the fivepiece from Danmark should become the best one until The Last Supper-acts! Supported by a bombastic sound and a lot of samples the five guys around the new singer Kasper Thomsen and their producer Tue Madsen on the second guitar blew me and my weak impression of their Wacken 2004-performance totally away. Besides playing material from their self-titled debut (\u201cTwelve Feet Tall\u201d, \u201cDrive\u201d) and their breakthrough album \u201cConfusion Bay\u201d (\u201cJoin The Scene\u201d, \u201cWatch Out\u201d) the Dans concentrated on their new masterpiece \u201cDeath Pop Romance\u201d by \u201cAbandon Your Hope\u201d, \u201cRemembrance\u201d and \u201cPhantoms\u201d after which they left the stage and a satisfied crowd.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Haunted<\/strong> While those hot temperatures under a cloudless sky the Swedish Thrash Metal-machine gauranteed sweat on stage as on the spectators\u2019 side. They convinced by songs from the current \u201cRevolver\u201d-album like \u201cNo Compromise\u201d, \u201c99\u201d or \u201cAbysmal\u201d as by their classics from their three earlier longplayers like \u201cHate Song\u201d, \u201cDark Intensions\u201d \/ \u201cBury Your Dead\u201d and \u201cShadow World\u201d and let their fans forget the sun for 40 minutes till they noticed themselves as totally wet after the band had played their last tone marked by a fragment from Slayer\u2019s \u201cSouth Of Heaven\u201d! Three words: Hot! Wet! Great!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heaven Shall Burn<\/strong> Different band, same luxury-problem! With their new guitarist Alexander Dietz the East German Metalcore-institution expressed pure energy on as in front of the stage. Ignoring the heat the fans went wild in different circle- or whatever-pits to  smashers like the hammer-opener \u201cEchoes (Intro)\u201d \/ \u201cThe Weapon The Fear\u201d, \u201cVoice Of The Voiceless\u201d, \u201cBehind A Wall Of Silence\u201d, \u201cThe Only Truth\u201d (supported by a huge wall of death) and the final \u201cUnleash Enlightenment\u201d while I went to the safe canopy of my chosen beer-refill-station and enjoyed the fine gig the relaxed way this time!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Obituary<\/strong> Just one year after their latest appearance in Roitzschjora the time had come to obey the Death Metal-icons from Tampa, Florida again. And to me personally this year\u2019s performance seemed improved in comparison to last year\u2019s one. Anyway, supported by a powerful sound smashers like \u201cThreatening Skies\u201d, \u201cTil\u2019 Death\u201d, \u201cTurned Inside Out\u201d, \u201cChopped In Half\u201d, \u201cSlow Death\u201d and the final classic \u201cSlowly We Rot\u201d got celebrated &#8211; while another soccer championship quarter final between England and Portugal (result: 1:3 a.p.) happened &#8211; by a crowd which was still hungry for Obi(No, not Wan Kenobi! \uf04a)-live-action. It looked like the support was even higher than last year which shows their importance. But one argument: A little bit more motion please, Mr West!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clawfinger<\/strong> Since their latest WFF-appearance before in 2003 I haven\u2019t taken a notice about the Swedish Crossover-kings. But back in Roitzschjora fronter Zak Tell, Jocke Skog and Co presented another overwhelming live-show. Convincing with newer songs from their latest three releases like the title track of their current album \u201cHate Yourself With Style\u201d, \u201cRecipe For Hate\u201d or \u201cBigger Than The Best\u201d the hits from their first two albums of course earned the loudest jubilation. So the most crowdsurfers during their set I was able to count while \u201cNigger\u201d, \u201cRosegrove\u201d and \u201cThe Truth\u201d. Besides the songs Zak communicated a lot with the crowd including a polite congratulation to the German soccer team while Portugal defeated England with 3:1 after penalty shootout.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Extremo<\/strong> With an interesting stage set representing a medieval ship the German Folk Rock\/Metal-kings began their show by the suitable \u201cRaue See\u201d to let follow \u201cHorizont\u201d. Behind a steering-wheel vocalist Das Letzte Einhorn motivated bandmates as fans to move which both sides did to \u201cSpielmannsfluch\u201d, \u201cWind\u201d, \u201cKrumma Visur\u201d, \u201cVollmond\u201d and the set closing \u201cOmni Sol Temperat\u201d. Supported by a cool pyro-, effect-show the sevenpiece satisfied their fans for another time! Probably I had seen them to often to be that enthusiastic, but the performance convinced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agnostic Front<\/strong> 15 minutes after the official showtime-start the New York City Hardcore-legend around fronter Roger Miret entered the stage to celebrate a big Hardcore-party with their fans. Besides presenting newer material like \u201cPeace\u201d and \u201cFall Of The Parasites\u201d the five guys earned the most support to classics like \u201cNew Jack\u201d, the band-hymn \u201cGotta Go\u201d (including the wildest mosh-pit) or \u201cToxic Shock\u201d and left the crowd after an intense as short performance. So nobody felt the need to worry, but: More than enough would have enjoyed to watch them the hour they were planned on the running order. Or did the musicians watch the kick-off of the last soccer wc-quarter final between Brasil and France (result: 0:1)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Flames<\/strong> The evolution of the Melodic Death Metal-founders from Gothenburg found another highlight in the Saturday\u2019s headliner-slot on the WFF after they had appeared last year as the WFF-Friday-co-headliner before Slayer. So the five Swedes appeared in front of much more fans than Celtic Frost had done the night before. \u201cThe Quiet Place\u201d marked the beginning of an amazing 75 minutes lasting set only consisting of hits. So the crowd sang to \u201cTake This Life\u201d (from their new album \u201cCome Clarity\u201d), \u201cBullet Ride\u201d, the oldie \u201cBehind Space\u201d, \u201cOnly For The Weak\u201d, \u201cCloud Connected\u201d, \u201cPinball Map\u201d, \u201cColony\u201d, \u201cTrigger\u201d, \u201cTouch Of Red\u201d and the mighty final \u201cMy Sweet Shadow\u201d. Supported by a  bombastic pyro- and light-show which was suitbale to the fantastic show as very entertaining because it was created very diversified this show became to a highlight of this year\u2019s WFF as of my numerous In Flames-shows I had seen. Fronter Anders Frid\u00e9n showed for another time his entertainer qualities congratulating the crowd for the German soccer-team and doing different irconic statements.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tent Stage: Hardbowl<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Ignite<\/strong> Two years ago I watched the Melodic Hardcore-institution from Orange County to get a first impression about them and I got totally blown away by one of the most impressive live-acts I have ever seen. A fluke? Not at all! The band returned with the very strong \u201cOur Darkest Days\u201d-album and started with its \u201cIntro (Our Darkest Days)\u201d to let follow its opener \u201cBleeding\u201d. They offered a well-balanced set consisting of further new hits like \u201cFear Is Our Tradition\u201d, \u201cLet It Burn\u201d, the homage to the Hungarian national uprising against communism fifty years before \u201cPoverty For All\u201d, \u201cSave Yourself\u201d, cover songs like Johnny Cash\u2019s \u201cMy Judgement Day\u201d and U2\u2019s \u201cSunday, Bloody, Sunday\u201d which was sung by thousands of voices and newer classics like \u201cBullets Included No Thought Required\u201d, \u201cWho Sold Out Now?\u201d, \u201cRun\u201d, \u201cBy My Side\u201d, the set finishing \u201cA Place Called Home\u201d as older ones like \u201cCall On My Brothers\u201d. Like two years before I missed the \u201cYou\u201d-oldie. But anyway: An intoxicating wonderful show moderated by fronter Zoli Teglas who did a few different intelligent political statements!<\/p>\n<p><em>Tent Stage: Saturday Night Fever<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Ostkreutz<\/strong> A band from Berlin I had never heard of irritated the tent-spectatorship by a surreal show on a stage equipped with a couple of TV screens showing some projections. The multilingual Electro-Rock was performed in German, English and Russian. Some dudes felt like dancing, I felt bored.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Volbeat<\/strong> The Danish newcomers may be the next shooting stars in the Rock-\/Metal-universum. The debut album \u201cThe Strength \/ The Sound \/ The Songs\u201d earned much applause from press as from the consuments. Their appearance reinforced this impression. In contrast to the act before the quartet showed much stage-action and performed songs like \u201cCaroline Leaving\u201d, \u201cAnother Day, Another Way\u201d, \u201cSomething Else Or&#8230;\u201d, \u201cSoulweeper\u201d, \u201cFiresong\u201d and \u201cCaroline #1\u201d supported by a powerful sound (No, it wasn\u2019t fellow countryman Tue Madsen, he watched the show right next to me!). Another characteristic trademark of the Volbeat-sound is the wonderful voice of Michael Poulsen remembering to Elvis Presley as to Life Of Agony\u2019s Keith Caputo. So the band finished their appearance by the Dusty Springfield-cover \u201cI Only Wanna Be With You\u201d and their party-hit \u201cPool Of Booze, Booze, Booza\u201d and much applause for their show.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Synthetic Breed<\/strong> The next band to follow was very strange, but in contrast to Ostkreutz still interesting. The Australians presented a mixture of older Fear Factory-, Meshuggah- and strange Industrial- as Progressive Metal-sounds. So many spectators stood there with the mouth wide open trying to concentrate on the complex compositions, a few other ones slept in. Sometimes their sound seemed too extremely strange, but generally I\u2019m looking forward to their debut-longplayer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Die Krupps<\/strong> In the 90ies the Industrial-band from D\u00fcsseldorf was pretty big and might had played in a good position on the Main Stage, after their reunion they had a much more difficult role to act on the Tent Stage as Saturday\u2019s last band at 3:00 a.m.. After opening with \u201cHigh Tech \/ Low Life\u201d they let follow classics by \u201cIsolation\u201d and \u201cCrossfire\u201d which motivated the crowd to move. The band around the very agile mainman J\u00fcrgen Engler continued performing a best-of-set by \u201cBlack Beauty White Heat\u201d, \u201cThe Dawning Of Doom\u201d, \u201cMetal Machine Music\u201d, \u201cBloodsuckers\u201d, their biggest hit \u201cTo The Hilt\u201d and my fave \u201cFatherland\u201d. The band even played an encore and left an outpowered fanship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Main Stage<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Mambo Kurt &#038; Bossa Babes<\/strong> After appearing the night before in the VIP-tent which is an every-year-WFF-procedure the organ-maestro returned to the Main Stage where he had appeared in 2003 for the latest time. Supported by his Bossa Babes consisting of guitarist Andrea Odenthal (she is also known from Peter T\u00e4gtgren\u2019s band Pain) and a female drummer  Mambo Kurt entertained by his hammond organ-versions of \u201cThe Final Countdown\u201d, \u201cEnter Sandman\u201d or \u201cI Was Made For Loving You\u201d and motivated the early-noon-crowd to organise a conga line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Real McKenzies<\/strong> The Canadians performed a Scottish Folk Punk Rock-show like they had done at the same place two years before. The group realised a party many visitors felt invited to whether they played material from their current \u201c10,000 Fists\u201d-release or older stuff. But because of the bad sound it was pretty hard to take a notice of their bagpipes. The formation took care of a visual effect showing they didn\u2019t wear any underwear under their kilts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Holy Moses<\/strong> Sabina Classen &#038; Co replaced Soilwork which didn\u2019t really find many supporters. Of course, their sound is much too different. So I was very disappointed, too because the running order change became public a few hours before and I had high expectations to Soilwork which Holy Moses couldn\u2019t fulfill. Nevertheless I need to praise the spontaneous reaction of Holy Moses who played a solid gig which they finished by \u201cToo Drunk To Fuck\u201d!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gorefest<\/strong> The return of the Dutch Death Metal-insitution began with two tracks from their current \u201cLa Muerte\u201d-album (\u201cFor The Masses\u201d, \u201cWhen The Dead Walk The Earth\u201d) to continue with an oldie from \u201cFalse\u201d (\u201cThe Glorious Dead)\u201d. Tracks from their middle era (\u201cLow\u201d, \u201cFreedom\u201d, \u201cChapter Thirteen\u201d) found as much support as the final \u201cFalse\u201d-classic \u201cReality \/ When You Die\u201d did. The only thing that didn\u2019t work was the sound. Besides that the Gorefest-reunion is one of the few making sense in my opinion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arch Enemy<\/strong> The sound got much improved in contrast to Gorefest, but sometimes it seemed like the German grunter Angela Gossow lost her voice for a few seconds. The Swedish instrumental fraction around guitarist Michael Amott compensated it. The concert mainly contained tracks from the current release \u201cDoomsday Machine\u201d like the opener \u201cNemesis\u201d or \u201cMy Apocalypse\u201d. Classics like \u201cRavenous\u201d, \u201cDead Eyes See No Future\u201d, \u201cBurning Angel\u201d and the last played title \u201cWe Will Rise\u201d earned the biggest positive reactions from the audience being happy the hot temperatures had gone a little bit down in the early evening.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bullet For My Valentine<\/strong> While the 20 minutes lasting changeover it wasn\u2019t difficult to regognize the shooting stars from Wales are a band with a high female and\/or younger fan factor. But that doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re the new Pop\/Rock-princes. No they rocked the WFF with an astonishing live-power. Supported by roadie Kevin Papworth who replaced the ordinary bassist Jason James for this show there was no doubt about the live-presentation of \u201cPoison\u201d, \u201c4 Words To Choke Upon\u201d, \u201cSuffocating Under Wings Of Sorrow\u201d, \u201cHand Of Blood\u201d, \u201cCries In Vain\u201d, \u201cAll These Things\u201d, \u201cTears Don\u2019t Fall\u201d and the set closing \u201cNo Control\u201d. Roadie Kevin who looked like the father of his companions was grinning during the whole show while the well entertaining fronter Matt Tuck and his guitar college Michael Paget took care of the stage posing part while drummer Michael Thomas produced power from his kit. Not too bad for a young band just having released one longplayer album yet!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sick Of It All<\/strong> Because of Korn\u2019s cancelation Mot\u00f6rhead got promoted to the headliner position and Sick of It All replaced them. Probably there mightn\u2019t be any reserve band replacing another one which still counts that many supporters their own. So this appearance became an hour of triumph. Celebrating their 20th band anniversary the Koller brothers &#038; Co caused a huge wall of death and several circlepits becoming one big moshpit by \u201cUprising Nation\u201d from their forthcoming release \u201cDeath To Tyrants\u201d, \u201cSanctuary\u201d, \u201cMy Life\u201d, the band-hymn \u201cScratch The Surface\u201d and the final \u201cUs vs. Them\u201d. In contrast to the band before where both sixstringers had had too many vocal parts Sick Of It All have the freedom to run and jump on stage as much as they want to, and that\u2019s what they did! Mostly very near to the edge of the stage which was a pleasure for every photograph!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mot\u00f6rhead<\/strong> Last year Mot\u00f6rhead were forced to cancel their headliner appearance at the WFF due to sickness reasons. This year they promoted from the co-headliner-position back to the position they belong to. The threepiece opened by \u201cDoctor Rock\u201d and \u201cStay Clean\u201d a greatest-hits-set which included with \u201cKillers\u201d and \u201cIn The Name Of Tragedy\u201d two tracks from their latest longplayer \u201cInferno\u201d. But while guitarist Phil Campbell and especially Mickey Dee did an excellent live-job mainman Lemmy Kilmister didn\u2019t seem to be in a good mood. Motionless and seemingly exerted he performed hammers like \u201cNo Class\u201d, \u201cSacrifice\u201d (containing a drum solo in its middle) or the \u201cR.A.M.O.N.E.S.\u201d-tribute. Just in the last part of the show when they bid the fans in front of the Main Stage farewell by the strong killers \u201cKilled By Death\u201d, \u201cAce Of Spades\u201d and \u201cOverkill\u201d (the last two ones as encores) the appearance took a fine end.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tent Stage: Hardbowl<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Die Lokalmatadore<\/strong> Because of a band change of Sunday\u2019s Hardbowl running order (Anti cop replaced Liar!) the planned Hardbowl-headliner played earlier. The Fun Punkrock-fourpiece from M\u00fchlheim an der Ruhr entered the stage wearing fun merchandise pointing out on the German soccer team entertained by \u201cIn Den Arsch\u201d, \u201cFu\u00dfball, Ficken, Alkohol\u201d and the hit \u201cPillemann, Fotze, Arsch\u201d including a singalong improvisation which would sound in English: \u2018Hey, hey, who doesn\u2019t jump is Italian\u201d confronting Germany\u2019s semi-final opponent Italy. The audience was mainly amused as I was, too.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tent Stage: The Last Supper<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Lumsk<\/strong> The most exotic act in The Last Supper was the Folk Metal-sevenpiece from Trondheim which had composed their two longplayers in Norwegian language supported by a violin as a synthesizer besides the ordinary Rock \/ Metal-instrumentation. Performed by the nice voice of songs like \u201cPerpalsa\u201d or \u201cNidvisa\u201d sounded well whether it was a hard contrast between Mot\u00f6rhead right before and this formation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opeth<\/strong> \u2018Two words: Fuck and Schei\u00dfe!\u2019 mainman Mikael Akerfeld was not amused. The band\u2019s luggage including their instruments got lost on the flight to Leipzig. Mot\u00f6rhead were so nice to lent them their ones. With this anger the genuises were very motivated and offered for another time an excellent show which began by \u201cThe Grand Conjuration\u201d from the current masterpiece \u201cGhost Reveries\u201d and which ended with \u201cDeliverance\u201d. 40 minutes \u2013 4 songs: That\u2019s Opeth! Like on the WFF 2003 the artists from Stockholm performed the best show of the whole festival in my opinion!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Graveworm<\/strong> They are a typical live-act. Their recordings are nice, but after improving their live-qualities over the years the band from Italy express their full energy on stage. So they did on the WFF. The four guys and lady Sabine on keyboards caught the mob with songs from the new album \u201c(N)utopia\u201d like its title track, \u201cHateful Design\u201d or \u201cNever Enough\u201d as neckbreakers from the album before named \u201cEngraved In Black\u201d like \u201cLegions Unleashed\u201d and \u201cDreaming Into Reality\u201d. Fronter Stefan Fiori wore an Italian soccer jersey of the forthcoming German semi-final opponent! Why, I thought people from South Tirol don\u2019t feel Italian?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amorphis<\/strong> The 2007-edition of the WFF ended with another highlight. The band from Finland had found back to their sound from the \u201cElegy\u201d-phase. The main reason: The new dreadlocked singer Tomi Joutsen who convinced by his voice as by his stageacting. They started with the new \u201cLeaves Scar\u201d into their set in which they also performed by \u201cHouse Of Sleep\u201d and \u201cThe Smoke\u201d two other songs from their great new album \u201cEclipse\u201d. Even bigger support the band earned for classics like \u201cThe Castaway\u201d, \u201cAlone\u201d, \u201cAgainst Widows\u201d, \u201cIn the Beginning\u201d \u201cMy Kantele\u201d and \u201cThe Way\u201d. While that many fans partied and headbanged to one of the best showcases of the WFF 2007!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion:<\/strong> What is one of the best places to be at while the biggest world championship of the world takes place in Germany? It\u2019s the With Full Force! A great peaceful party with numerous nice fans and of course lots of cool performances.<br \/>\nThe cancelations of Korn, Soilwork, Deicide and Liar the WFF-organizors answered with engaging Sick Of It All, Holy Moses, Disbelief and Anticops and the promotion of Mot\u00f6rhead to the Sunday headliner position.<br \/>\nThe prices for food and beverages had been for another time as fair as the WFF is well-known for it (e.g. 2,30 Euro for a 0,4l beer or softdrink).<br \/>\nThe weather was almost too good.
